The WW Big Dipper shares the same blade shape as its namesake, it has been totally redesigned to create a paddle that is extremely capable in up to Grade 3 white water conditions, whilst being a pleasure to paddle with all day. Relatively light, strong, stiff and very durable, this paddle is the river runner’s dream.
Our White Water Big Dipper paddle has gone through a face lift.
Traditionally our WW Big Dipper and WW Dipper have been built using Cedar as the main blade material. We are now using Meranti in place of the Cedar in the blade and the Sapele in the spine of the shaft. Ash is still used for the shaft outers and stiffening strips in the blade. This greatly reduces the weight of the paddle but keeps its outstanding performance.
We think the WWBD paddle looks smart with these changes and it will continue to deliver the same light weight and power that has placed the WWBD at the top of our order books as our most popular paddle to date.
To toughen up and protect the blade edges and tip we use the superb Dynel composite cord…this material was developed specifically for reinforcing paddle edges and tips and has very high abrasion & impact resistance. To keep weight to a minimum whilst reinforcing the blade faces, we use a layer of 4oz S-Glass cloth finished with epoxy.
For control, we have developed a new hybrid T-grip. It is both positive & secure when needed for power moves in heavy water, whilst being tactile & comfortable for regular paddling strokes.
This paddle’s blade is protected with several coats of high quality marine varnish.
The shaft and grip are sealed and then finished with multiple oil coats, retaining a nice feel in the hand, whilst making for easy maintenance.
This paddle is not available in a choice of timbers.
